From Role to Soul: inquiring into the inner work of age, with Heather Day
April 28, 2023 @ 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm BST
Heather writes: I would like to lead the AMED Writers’ Group (AWG) in an enquiry around the ‘Inner work of Age.’ Considering how we move from ‘Role to Soul,’ I take Connie Zweig’s book as my starting point, and I feel inspired to bring this theme in a spirit of exploration and discovery.
Process: I will offer a series of guided writing exercises, discussion and reflection. Together, we will explore themes related to the movement from the roles we have played in our lives (and may still play) towards our Soul, and what that might mean for each of us. As part of the journey, we will consider our ‘lived and unlived’ life, our ‘inner ageist’, and be introduced to three qualities of awareness which may be useful as a lens or resource. My intention for the session is to create a space where we can gain fresh insights or a deeper understanding into ways to re-define and re-orientate ourselves as we age.
This session will be offered in person at Roots and Shoots. Emerging from lockdown, we invite as many of you as possible to join us in London, face to face, with the option of a convivial drink afterwards in a nearby pub or café. If there is sufficient interest from people who are unable to join us face-to-face, we have plans to offer a ZOOM version online on Friday 2 June.
What to bring: Please bring your preferred writing resources, coloured pens and plain paper (if you want to explore with drawing alongside writing) and – above all – yourself.
About Heather: This will be the second time I have offered a session with AMED. The theme of navigating life and career transitions deeply interests me as a coach. I support my clients with identifying where they are on the transition cycle, and by exploring what might enable them to move onto the next phase. www.heatherdaycoaching.com.

Cost: £10. Proceeds will help us cover the cost of room and equipment hire.
How to reserve your place: If you would like to participate in this co-inquiry, please let Bob know by 14 April (earlier if possible). If you can’t come in person on 28 April, you can still let me know if you’re interested in the later online session. We’ll send you joining details for the in-person session on 27 April.
Do you have any suggestions for future AWG sessions (perhaps you’d like to offer to lead one)? If so, please get in touch, and we can discuss possibilities.
Kind regards. Bob (MacKenzie), E: bob@amed.org.uk
